After a soft launch last month, temper Covent Garden is now open. This is the third temper restaurant concept from Neil Rankin’s restaurant group.

Located at 5 Mercer Walk and nestled between Covent Garden and Seven Dials, the restaurant focuses on wood-fired pizzas, charcuterie, ragu, vermouth and wine. The 144-seat establishment features temper’s distinctive open kitchen, countertop seating and a patio for dining alfresco. This location is likely to be another success story for temper.

The décor

As usual, a large open kitchen is a dominant feature in temper Covent Garden. However, temper’s third location has a large wood-fired oven for baking pizzas. Also, the restaurant has an outside courtyard with seating, which is ideal for the warmer weather.

The food

Pizza at temper Covent Garden comes in two types – Detroit-style (deep-pan) pizza and bar pizza, which takes its inspiration from pizza served as a snack to complement drinks.

The Detroit-style pizzas feature a rectangular base that is like a focaccia and has cheese all the way up to the edges, creating a crisp crust. Selections include the Soft-Shell Crab Detroit (tomato and bisque base with whole soft-shell crabs, green chilli, onions and brown crab sour cream) and Goat Ragu Detroit Red Top (burnt pepper pesto, slow-cooked goat ragu and goat salami).

The bar pizzas are lighter and thinner. Normally, this type of pizza would have very ordinary toppings. However, temper Covent Garden goes all out with selections that include the White Clam (clams, mozzarella, samphire and red onion on a provolone cheese crust) and the Wagyu Salami (cured wagyu with a San Marzano tomato base and mozzarella on a provolone cheese crust).

The award winning drinks

 

temper was awarded ‘Cocktail List of the Year’ at the Nation Restaurant Awards 2018.

Alongside their award-winning cocktail menu, the showcase at the bar is the vermouth, with a large selection of brands, including Asterly Bros, Belsazar, Cocchi, Lillet and Regal Rose, all available.

The menu shows the versatility of vermouth, with an excellent range of dry and sweet varieties. The bar also features a dedicated Americano and Spritzer list in addition to its exclusive Negroni list. On tap, you will find both Aperol Spritz and vermouth are available!

Make the most of the summertime and visit temper Covent Garden. Open from 12:00 pm to 11:30 pm Monday to Thursday, 12:00 pm to 12:00 am Friday and Saturday, and 12:00 pm to 10:30 pm on Sunday.
