UK Food, Drink and Hospitality Market

The UK food and drink market is the largest part of the UK manufacturing industry, worth over £94 billion in 2015 and predicted to grow at 3-4% annual in the short-to-medium term. Many sectors within the food and drink market are undergoing expansion and are looking forward to future growth – this can be attributed to key factors such as:

  • The demand for casual dining, which is experiencing a golden period, having had sales increase by 35% to £5 billion in June 2016 compared to June 2010;
  • A shift in consumer preferences for non-artificial products, healthy eating, and ‘free-from’ ranges such as gluten free, vegan and vegetarian – a trend worth £238 million to the UK, or 10% of the total food market.

The out-of-home food and drink market is consistently doing well, driven by the time-poor modern consumer, and could be worth £54 billion come the end of 2016 – representing a suitable target for disruption by new companies and products.
