When it comes to startups, the UK seems to be leading a revolution.

Ranked third in the world by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) for the number of startups created, the UK also boasts more unicorns (startups that grow to reach a valuation of $1 billion or more) than many other European countries.

So, what better way to celebrate the UK’s startup scene than National Startups Day?

Now in its third year, National Startups Day (Monday 22 October 2018) showcases the UK’s range of innovative and inspiring startups, as well as connecting founders to the advice and resources they need to succeed.

#NationalStartupsDay

Last year, #NationalStartupsDay campaign was supported by the likes of the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB), Dragon’s Den’s Jenny Campbell, and MP Margot James.

This year, organisers hope the campaign will be even bigger, shining a light on startups and getting their voices heard. Alongside the messages of support, expect to see profiles of inspiring startup founders, free advice and information to support existing startups and encourage the next generation of entrepreneurs.

According to government data, the UK is home to 5.5 million micro-businesses (employing 0-9 people). These companies are fundamental to the growth of the economy, providing business solutions and services, and creating jobs.

These are just some of the reasons UK startups continue to attract attention from investors and why the UK remains Europe’s number one investment hotspot. According to data from KPMG Enterprise, the UK attracted £1.4 billion in funding in the three months to September this year, ahead of Germany (£634 million) and France (£344 million).

Enterprise Investment Partners has a range of Enterprise Investment Schemes (EIS) that encourage investment in UK SMEs. By providing income tax and capital gains tax relief for investors, EIS helps young businesses scale up, turning concepts into successful and fast-growing businesses.
